Half the stars you steer by have changed, and some are gone — what reaches you is old light, faithfully arriving. So it is with every soul you have already decided about. You are reading last year's light and calling it the person, dear one — and someone is doing the same to you. Who are you still seeing by light that left them long ago?

The Shadow Whisper

When this message is being refused, the whisper defends the star charts: people don't change — I know what I saw. And it is right about exactly one word: saw. Seeing was then. The whisper calls its stale sky realism and its filing system wisdom, and under both names it keeps you safe from the one risk it cannot survive: a new reading. Ask it the question it never asks itself: when did you last take a reading of this person — not remember one, take one?

Sit With It

Choose one soul you have been seeing by old light — the self counts. Take a new reading: one real conversation carried out with no verdict in your pocket, asking questions you do not already know the answers to. Afterward, name one thing that is no longer true of them, and say aloud: "I release the light that outlived its star." If they are gone from this world, or not safe to approach, keep the ceremony under the night sky with their name instead — the new reading happens in your chart either way. That is where the navigation lives.
