Rowan Boy stands under a rowan tree so loaded with red berries that it feeds every bird in the wood for free. In old stories, rowan trees protect everyone who shelters near them. That is Rowan Boy's way. He is the protector-friend: the big sibling who walks the little one to class, the kid who says "leave her alone" and means it, the one who shares snacks without keeping score.
