Coming Home to the Body
The Seven Healing Spreads
A healing spread by Ma'hara
A short, grounding return from the spinning head to the felt, breathing body. Bring this when the sitter has been living in their head — analyzing, bracing, spiraling, managing — and has lost the thread down to the body entirely. It is for the dysregulated nervous system, the one running on vigilance, the person who knows a lot and feels almost nothing below the neck. Bring it when safety is the missing ingredient, when the body has been a place to escape rather than inhabit. Keep this one small and slow; a flooded nervous system does not need more cards, it needs fewer, and closer to the ground.
The positions
- 1. What keeps you in your headthe exact thing the mind is doing to stay in charge: the loop it's running, the danger it's scanning for, the feeling it's outrunning by thinking.
- 2. What the body has been holdingwhere the unfelt thing is stored below the neck — the clenched jaw, the braced shoulders, the shallow breath — and what it has been guarding you from feeling.
- 3. The ground beneath youthe safety that is actually present right now, in this room, in this body; the coherent state where the nervous system remembers it is not in danger. This is the restoring card.
How to read it
Read downward, and slow with each step — the descent is the medicine. Card 1 is usually a Mind Field card, often reversed; the Shadow of the overactive mind is exactly what's keeping the sitter aloft. Do not spend long in interpretation here; this spread heals by moving down, not by understanding more. Card 2 asks you to name a body location gently. Card 3 restores through safety, not insight — the ground rising to meet them, feeling returning to the body.
How it closes in the body
Close on card 3, the ground beneath you — and give this close more time than any other, because it is the whole spread. Guide the Somatic Anchor so the sitter feels their weight held by the chair or the floor, the breath arriving on its own, the feet in contact with the earth. Let them stay in it. The reading is finished when the body is lower, slower, and here.
