Healing Grief

The Seven Healing Spreads

A healing spread by Ma'hara

A way to sit with a loss honestly, and to find where the love that has nowhere to go might still travel. Bring this when someone is inside a loss — a death, an ending, a life that didn't happen — and their eyes have fixed on the absence the way eyes do. Not to rush them out of it; grief is not a dissonance to be corrected. This spread honors the grief first, fully, and only then asks the gentle question underneath: the love did not end when the object of it did — where can it still go? It is for the one caught in the loop of looking backward, who needs permission to still feel, and a place to put what they're carrying.

Ask it plainly, the way you would ask a trusted friend — or skip this and let the cards speak first.

The positions

  1. 1. What was lostnamed plainly and without softening: the actual thing gone, in its real particularity, not "loss" in the abstract.
  2. 2. Where the eyes are fixedthe exact image or moment the grief keeps returning to, the frame the sitter cannot look away from.
  3. 3. What the grief is protectingwhy the looking-back feels like the only loyalty left; the fear that to stop grieving is to lose them a second time.
  4. 4. What the loss has not takenwhat remains that the absence cannot reach: a bond, a knowing, a way you were changed that is still yours.
  5. 5. Where the love can still travelthe living direction the feeling can move now — toward a person, a practice, the world, yourself — so that love has somewhere left to go.
  6. 6. What you carry forwardthe form the love takes when it is no longer only ache; the coherent state that lets you keep them and keep living. This is the restoring card.

How to read it

The descending three are the honoring — do not hurry them. Card 2 is often a Heart or Mind Field card reversed, the grief loop active and asking to be met. The turn happens at card 4; read it as truth, not consolation. Cards 5 and 6 restore. The whole spread echoes the movement from eyes fixed on the loss toward love with somewhere left to go — grief not ended, but given a direction.

How it closes in the body

Close on card 6, what you carry forward. Guide its Somatic Anchor slowly — grief lives in the throat, the chest, the breath, and the Anchor is where the sitter feels the love change form in the body rather than only understand that it can. Let the tears come if they come. Wait until the breath has deepened before you close.
